Future Insomniac?

Oh sheesh.

I really hope my sweet daughter does not inherit her mama's sleep habits.

I've struggled with insomnia since 7th grade.

Legit insomnia.

Luckily, last year, we bought a Temperpedic mattress AND I got pregnant.

Both cured me of my terrible sleep issues.

When I watch my sweet baby love as she sleeps, I get a little nervous. (Yeah. Yeah. I know she's only 11 days old. And healthy sleep habits will eventually develop).

But the girl is a MOVER when she sleeps.

Day 2, I watched her roll from her back to her left side to her back to her right side.

And she often moves from being vertical in the crib to horizontal. (Even while very tightly swaddled.)

Oh. And she flails her arms and kicks like a maniac...while sleeping. But, she particularly loves to throw her hands up in the air.

Now. We have swaddled her since day one. And I have just come to accept...that I'm pretty sure she hates it. At least most of the time.

Because she does everything in her power to bust out of swaddles.

So last night, we took baby steps. I let her have 1 arm out. Then 2 arms after the next feeding.

She slept like the little babe she is.

I would just not swaddle her, but she rolls all over the place and I'm so nervous she's going to get an arm or a leg stuck, or get stuck on her belly or something.

So for now, we'll stick with the "partial swaddle".

Every day throws us a new learning curve.

At least she makes us laugh in the process.

I didn't swaddle either of my kids because they liked to be free. My daughter also got her foot stuck in between the bars in her crib and she let out a squeal to let me know. And both of my children slept on their tummies. I guess I'm telling you all this to help you feel more at ease if Lyla doesn't do all the things maybe other people or books tell you to do. It's okay to not do everything "by the book". You're a wonderful new mommy and Lyla is so incredibly lucky to have you.

Jacoby slept really well when he was swaddled but he just didn't really like it. And both my kids have been face sleepers (like their mama!) and they've survived. I will say...Jacoby got his leg stuck in between the slats in his crib once and Leonard and I felt horrible. But it's only happened the one time!

She is so sweet! We swaddled Carson until he was 4 months old because he loved it so much. In case you stick with it, the swaddle blankets with the velcro work much better than than the blankets.

She is just the sweetest sleeper! That's exactly how Chloe was in the beginning too. She always got out of her swaddle and she always had to have her arms out and up above her head! So cute!!!

Do you have a Miracle Blanket? My son was amazing at getting out of swaddles, and his sleep suffered. He was never once able to worm his way out of that Miracle blanket and I wished I had gotten one sooner! I loved those Aden and Anais blankets but the swaddling didn't always work well. Congrats on your new sweet pea! She's a doll!
