Yep.
I'm awkward yet again. It never fails.
I conducted interviews on a college campus today. This time, I was the one being awkward...not the students.
I was super sleepy this morning, so I stopped by Dunkin Donuts to get an iced coffee. Bad idea. Remember my bladder issues? Well, I ignored my instinct and drank two bottles of water and downed a medium iced coffee.
So, I made it through my first interview...no problem. Afterwards I thought to myself "I feel it coming on, I should probably go to the bathroom." Again, I ignored my instinct and thought that I would make it.
Well, about 10 minutes into my interview, I started to squirm. Two minutes later, I started sweating. Three minutes later, I started tearing up. Fifteen minutes into the interview, I completely stopped listening to the poor girl and began praying that I would make it to the bathroom. I literally thought I was going to pass out. I think she noticed. How do I know this? Well, when I looked in the mirror in the bathroom, I was literally purple.
Awkward Moment #1.
Then, I had another candidate - a very nice fellow, he was. I walked out to retrieve him and bring him into the interview room. Immediately, I went to shake his right hand...which was in a cast and sling. Awkward Moment #2. Then, he took his seat and I immediately noticed his ears. Normally, I try really hard not to notice physical "quirks" about candidates. But, he had major cauliflower ear...on both sides. I mean, it literally looked like two cauliflowers sticking out the side of his head. He had been a wrestler his whole life. I had to force myself the entire time to focus on his eyes. It was quite difficult. I think he totally caught me catching a glimpse of his cauliflowers though. Awkward Moment #3.
***I did not make up the term "cauliflower ear" - it is a real condition!***
Finally, it was time for me to leave. I was sort of daydreaming and thanking the Lord for how beautiful it was outside. I realized as I was driving through the campus, multiple people were looking at me funny and/or glaring at me. Hmm. They must be jealous of my company's Camry. I noticed two huge groups of kids walking on a tour of the campus, and they too looked at me funny.
Oops.
I realized I was going the wrong way on a one way. Awkward Moment #4.

Ewww I had never heard of "cauliflower ear" before and had to look it up- how gross! No wonder you couldn't stop staring!
I am forever driving the wrong way down 1 way streets. But at least it doesn't sounds like there were a bunch of cars heading towards you.
Oh what a day, haha! I'm sorry but I had to laugh!! My itty bitty baby bladder has gotten me into trouble during an interview--where I was a candidate! I seriously was delirious by the end of it!
Wow, that was an awkward filled day. I think the ear dude would have put me over the edge. When stuff like that comes up I can never stop looking at it.
Awkward days are the best days. That's why I wear halter tops to work.
Cauliflower ear is gross! I've seen it before on college wrestlers.
As far as going the wrong way on a one way? We've done that several times in Italy, it's always good for a laugh!
I'm sure that you are glad that day is over! I do apologize because I was laughing while I read your post. I remember the first time I met a guy with cauliflower ear, it was the hardest thing not to just stare. At that time (think high school) I had little tack so I just asked him about and if it hurt and all sorts of other questions that he probably didn't want to answer! oops!
Hopefully the remainder of the week goes smoother!
Oh man...what a day! I hope today is better.
Ahhhh that sounds like quite an awkward day! Atleast you didn't tinkle in your pants tho...hehe
We all have those days! :)
One of my best friends in college used to always date wrestles and I would be sooo grossed out by their cauliflower ears. One time I think I said something, perhaps after some alcohol, and one guy explained how it got that way, and now I won't touch any wrestlers with a 10 foot pole. NASTY!
Somehow I ended up on your blog and it is a funny read!
Have a great weekend!
Jen
